Varsity Fanclub (also known as VFC) is an American vocal group from Los Angeles, California.
Discovered in 2006, the music group originally signed to Capitol Records. The members Bobby Edner of Los Angeles, David Lei Brandt of Evansville, Indiana, Drew Ryan Scott & Jayk Purdy of Las Vegas, and Thomas Fiss of San Diego were discovered at auditions held by a production company. The goal of these auditions was to find five "triple-threats" as vocalists, dancers, and actors, each one of them groomed to "dazzle in the studio, on stage, and in every TV or film endeavor." The audition process will be the subject of a reality show entitled "Star Makers", to be featured at cinsay.com.
Varsity Fanclub first gained public attention by giving a special showcase performance at the EMI Music Rooftop on August 19, 2008 in New York City. On July 21, 2008, the group appeared in "The Boyband Superfan Interrogation"[1] episode of ABC Family's The Middleman.
Their debut single, “Future Love” (written by Ryan Tedder of One Republic and Evan Bogart), is currently being marketed on iTunes [2] and Amazon [3]. The "Future Love" music video premiered October 14, 2008 on Varsity Fanclub's Official MySpace [4], and was posted on YouTube[5] two days later. The video shows the group performing a futuristic digital concert. Each of the band members' names appears on the screen, and a dance break occurs midway into the song. Kristinia DeBarge released a version of "Future Love" on her 2009 album Exposed.
Varsity Fanclub's self-titled debut album was to be released January 13, 2009, but was pushed back and eventually shelved. They are currently writing and recording a new debut album of all new songs.
On May 28, 2009, Thomas Fiss left the group to pursue a solo career. The band members were then joined by actor/singer/dancer T.C. Carter.
Their single "Spank That" was released April 27, 2010 and is currently available on itunes. [6]. To coincide with the release of the single, Varsity Fanclub introduced a new dance called the Crab via a YouTube video featuring recording artists Miley Cyrus and Iyaz.[7] The band's YouTube channel is highly active, as they frequently post information or entertaining videos. In 2008 and 2009 the band made a series of appearances at pop music radio stations, giving live studio performances and doing "meet and greets". They have done several tours and live performances in America and are doing a tour in Europe in 2010. Their first stop is in Germany on July 11th.
